How these types of spikes work is that they attach onto your shoes and as you are climbing, you can dig them right into the bark for leverage and support as you are advancing upward.
In general, if you are seriously considering becoming a climbing expert, you want to make sure that you are investing in the longer tree climbing spikes. Not only are they going to last you a really long time, but they will further your career in climbing because you will be able to conquer the harder trees. Becoming an expert tree climber is not all that hard to accomplish but it does take some dedication, so make sure that you are up to it!
