These accessories, while not super expensive, can become quite expensive if you wanted to invest in some that were on the higher end side.

What many people do not know is that tree climbing spikes come in two different sizes; the first is short climbing. Generally, these are used for electric workers as well as telephone company employees who are constantly climbing telephone poles. The short tree climbing spikes can also be used for trees that do not have extremely tough bark to get through.

Usually, if you are just starting out, you are going to want to go with the short spikes as they are used specifically for softer barked trees, which are generally what you, as a beginner will be climbing. If you are going to become an expert climber, there is another set of spikes that you can invest in and they are the longer ones.

The long tree climber spikes are generally an inch longer than the shorter spikes and they are made of complete steel. When you are an expert climber you want to make sure that you have something that can go through extremely rough-barked trees. These are usually the trees that you, as an expert will be climbing, so you want to make sure that you are safe.

When you are tree climbing, the spikes that you use are very, very important due to the fact that you do not have much support besides these accessories to keep you on the tree. How these types of spikes work is that they attach onto your shoes and as you are climbing, you can dig them right into the bark for leverage and support as you are advancing upward.

In general, if you are seriously considering becoming a climbing expert, you want to make sure that you are investing in the longer tree climbing spikes. Not only are they going to last you a really long time, but they will further your career in climbing because you will be able to conquer the harder trees.
